Why We Started Pegasi: Building Better LLM Applications
After spending over a decade as a software developer, I've witnessed firsthand how transformative AI and particularly Large Language Models have become for software development. But I've also experienced the significant challenges that come with building reliable LLM applications at scale.
The problem became clear: while LLMs offer incredible capabilities, turning them into stable, cost-effective applications is surprisingly complex. Developers face unpredictable API costs, inconsistent output quality, and the constant challenge of orchestrating multiple API calls efficiently.
The Real Challenge with LLM Development
What many don't realize until they're deep in the trenches is that building with LLMs isn't just about making API calls. It's about managing:
Response quality across different providers
Escalating API costs as applications scale
Complex error handling and retry logic
Output consistency and reliability
Efficient prompt optimization
Each of these challenges compounds as applications grow. What works for a prototype often breaks down at scale, leading to mounting API costs and reliability issues that can derail entire projects.
From Problem to Solution
This is why we built Pegasi. We wanted to create the tool we wished existed when we started building LLM applications. A lightweight SDK that automatically handles the complex orchestration of LLM calls while optimizing for both quality and cost.
We focused on building smart API orchestration that:
Automatically optimizes for quality and cost
Handles retry logic and error cases
Manages response consistency
Reduces API costs without compromising quality
Looking Forward
Our mission with Pegasi is simple: make it easier for developers to build reliable, cost-effective LLM applications. The 1.0 Beta release is just the beginning. We're working closely with developers to understand their needs and continuously improve our SDK.
We believe LLMs will become an increasingly crucial part of software development. But to reach their full potential, we need better tools for working with them. That's what we're building at Pegasi.
If you're building with LLMs, we'd love to hear about your experience and challenges. Our 1.0 Beta is now available - try it out and let us know what you think.
